Recording will not start or is silent

If recording does not start at all then check you have selected your sound card as the "Sound Record Device" and that you are not running any other software that is using the card at the same time.

If recording appears to start but the level meter stays blank (eg. silence) or very low then check:

Your microphone is correctly connected (if not using a built in microphone).
From Options -> Audio, change "Audio Input Channel" to "Windows Record Mixer" then click "Open Windows Record Mixer". Check the Microphone Fader is turned up and that it is selected (if applicable) and not on mute (if applicable). If there is an Advanced button next to the microphone channel, click it and check any Microphone boost options.
