Will my Olympus Directrec dictation device work with Express Dictate?

Yes, the Olympus Directrec dictation devices (DR-1200, DR-2100, DR-2200, DR-2300) will all work with Express Dictate. The microphone and speaker can be configured as normal audio devices in the options menu. To have these devices control the software, you will first need to connect the device to your computer and install the software provided by Olympus, then follow the following steps.

  1. Open the Device Configuration Manager.
  2. Click the Application Control tab.
  3. Open the file menu and select new template.
  4. In the dialog that opens, navigate to and select the executable for Express Dictate (for Windows this is usually in C:\Program Files\NCH Software\Express\).
  5. Configure a command by selecting it from the list displayed to the right of the picture of the controller (click the right side of the line under Assigned Command to display the edit button).
  6. Click that button, and in the dialog that appears, select Shortcut from the Command type drop down list.
  7. Click Add, then press the appropriate keyboard shortcut for the button you want to configure (list of all keyboard shortcuts is in the application help, listed as Keyboard Reference). Press Ok, then in the Edit Command dialog, press Ok once more.
  8. For each button you wish to configure, repeat steps 5-7.
  9. When you are done, you can close the Device Configuration Manager, and your Directrec device should be able to fully control Express Dictate.
