Q. How can I purchase Pocket Dictate? What does it cost?
The current pricing of Pocket Dictate is displayed at www.nch.com.au/pocketdictate/register. Click on the "more info..." links to view an explanation of the different license classes.

You can also purchase using VISA or Mastercard at www.nch.com.au/pocketdictate/register. You will receive a license serial number which you 'activate' to receive a serial ID and key. After you receive the key, if you have not done so already, download and install the software using one of the download links above then use the "Register Software" item from the File menu and enter the ID and key.

Q. Can I upgrade from a previous version? What is the upgrade policy?
All minor upgrades and bug fixes and some major upgrades are available free. Simply install the new file over the old file. If we introduce major new features or change the registration system, we may require users to purchase an upgrade.

We guarantee free upgrades for 3 months from date of purchase but in practice we often allow upgrades up to 12 months. If in doubt backup your old version and just try the new version. If you purchased more than 12 months ago, you will need purchase an upgrade to the current version. Please use www.nch.com.au/upgrade to view discounted upgrade pricing. You will need to have your previous registration ID and Key to purchase an upgrade key.

Q. How long a recording can my Pocket PC/Palm make?
This is dependant of how much memory you handheld has. The dictations are saved using the GSM codec and this will store approximately 1 hour per megabyte of free memory. Please only allow for half of your handhelds memory for determining record time to allow to temporary files and other such factors.

Q. Can Pocket Dictate record or save to a memory card?
From version 1.21 it can. Previous versions were unable to do so.

Q. Can Pocket Dictate record a phone call?
Even on a smartphone Pocket Dictate only records using the built in microphone and will not directly record phone conversations.

Q. Can Pocket Dictate or Palm Dictate run on a Blackberry?
No. Blackberries do not support sound recording.

In fact Blackberries are really duds. They are a classic example of marketing over technology. From a functional point of view they deserve to be in the era of the Commodore 64 or Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Support of sound was better on the Commodore (as for just about everything else). The portable Z88 released in 1988 was better than a Blackberry.

When we asked our development team to look at developing for Blackberries and they came back with the answer: Blackberries are Lemons.

Throw them away and get a real PDA based on Pocket PC or Palm OS.

Q. Does Pocket Dictate work on my xxxx processor or my xxxxx model Pocket PC?
Almost certainly. Unless you are using Windows Mobile 1.0 Pocket Dictate should work. Almost all current Pocket PCs use ARM based processor - even the various Intel xxxx series processors - as these are just a brand/manufacturer name.

Pocket Dictate comes with a 14 day free trial so if in doubt please download and try it.

Q. Does Pocket Dictate work with Windows Mobile 5.0?

Yes

Q. Can NCH Swift Sound help develop a more complex system?
When you download and install Pocket Dictate you also install extensive help files that contain the full manual. This can be opened using the Help Contents item of the Pocket Dictate menu.
