NCH Video Output Options - Resolution Settings
Image resolution describes the detail an image, or in VideoPad's case, a video holds. Higher resolution means more detail. Below is a list of the most popular resolutions, and the devices that support them:
NTSC Resolutions
- 720 x 480: D-VHS, DVD, miniDV, Digital8, Digital Betacam (pro), Widescreen DVD (anamorphic)
- 1280 x 720: D-VHS, HD DVD, Blu-ray, HDV (miniDV)
- 1440 x 1080: HDV (miniDV)
- 1920 x 1080: D-VHS, HD DVD, Blu-ray, HDCAM SR (pro)
PAL Resolutions
- 720 x 576: D-VHS, DVD, miniDV, Digital8, Digital Betacam (pro), Widescreen DVD (anamorphic)
- 1280 x 720: D-VHS, HD DVD, Blu-ray, HDV (miniDV)
- 1440 x 1080: HDV (miniDV)
- 1920 x 1080: D-VHS, HD DVD, Blu-ray, HDCAM SR (pro)
When to Use NTSC or PAL
NTSC and PAL are different formats of storing video information. Which format is used depends on where you live.
- NTSC is used in North America (including the USA), most of South America, Burma, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, and some Pacific island nations and territories.
- PAL is used in Australia, the majority of Europe and Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, French Guiana, and in several countries in Asia including China and India.
