The audio quality seems "essy"

This usually means your sound card does not support 11,025kHz sample rate. (Surprisingly some of the better brand sound cards are worse for this).

The ideal solution is to replace your sound card but fortunately this may not be required since a digital phone line cannot transmit the high frequency distortion caused by incorrect sample rate conversion in your sound card.
