P. I run the installer and nothing happens
Please check that you are using a Palm PC unit and running Palm OS 5.0 or above and have HotSync installed. If your Palm PC unit runs on Windows Mobile, you should download and use Pocket Dictate instead. Please check your Palm PC's manual to confirm which operating system your unit uses.

P. Palm Dictate freezes or soft resets on my Treo 600/650 handheld
We have a known issue with these handhelds and hope to fix this in the near future.

Update - May 2005: The updated version of PalmDictate with the Treo fix has been placed on the website and is now available for download.

P. The name of the dictation file in the email or uploaded to the FTP site is not the same as the Dictation Name on the handheld
The name is created at the time of sending and is not the same. The Dictation Name is stored in the file if you save as a DCT file, and will be visible if loaded using Express Dictate or Express Scribe.

P. I press the record button and the time never changes or the VU meter never responds. The record button stays yellow
This means there is no audio to record. Most likely your handheld does not have a microphone.

Q. Palm Dictate does not send my dictation using Versamail, or the email is truncated or corrupt
Versamail is limited to sending dictations of about 64kb in size or about 1.5 minutes long. Many PDA's will crash and need to be soft-reset if you exceed this limit. The latest version of Palm Dictate (1.05) has the option to use Exchange Manager and this option does not have this size limit. You can select this option using Preference menu, Send tab and Email Settings.

Please note this mode is less friendly as it does not use the email address or supply a subject or body message for the email. You need to provide these details every time you send a dictation. Only the email address and a brief subject is needed. Please do not ask us to correct these issues with Exchange Manager as this is not a limitation of Palm Dictate but the Exchange Manager itself.
