When recording from multiple devices I hear an echo on the recording.

If you are using multiple devices, you need to consider a single multichannel device. The echo is caused by delays in the pipe from many devices. While they are opened at the same time, if their drivers have delays for one reason or another the their respective delays cause echo. This is more likely with USB.

If you are using a single multichannel device check its settings let you specify separate devices or synchronous, if so select Synchronous.
