Overview and Selection Guide
There are a number of voice recording programs to record audio using Windows computers which are suitable for professional use.
VRS is designed for automatic logging of 1 to 32 channels of simultaneous audio, including both radio and telephone recording. It can work in voice activated or continuous mode and is designed to run 24 hours a day. Audio compression reduces the hard drive requirements. The Find and Search function lets you find a recording quickly by date, time or channel. Typical applications include general voice logging, radio station logging or multiline phone call recording.
Express Dictate is a dictation recording program for your home PC. It can be voice activated and controlled by keyboard or optional hand or foot controllers. It supports single channel recording only. Express Dictate features automatic compression and transmission of recordings by email, internet or over LAN and encryption for increased privacy. Typically Express Dictate is used to record dictation but it can be used for other applications. The Pocket PC version of Express Dictate is called Pocket Dictate.
MSRS is designed for court or conference recording where 1 - 16 channels of simultaneous audio are recorded and automatically sent at a preset interval for typing via the internet or computer network. It is designed to be a very simple to operate and extremely robust voice recording program.
AudioTime is designed to time-shift radio programs. It can be set to automatically record at set times or days and can then replay the recordings at different times or days. It can replay while it is still recording.
WavePad is a sound editor program for Windows. This software lets you make and edit voice and other audio recordings. You can cut, copy and paste parts of recording and, if required, add effects like echo, amplification and noise reduction.
RecordPad is a voice recording program for Windows PCs. It supports background recording, adjustable record times and formats, and can save and compress files in wav or mp3 format. RecordPad can be run with the WavePad software to edit and change files once they have been recorded.
