DSS files are not loading in Express Scribe. What can I do?

One common reason for this issue is that the DSS files might be recorded in a mode that Express Scribe doesn't support.

• Verify Recording Mode: Check if the files are recorded in SP mode. This mode is optimized for single-person speech and is often compatible with Express Scribe.
• If the files are in DP or MP mode, they might not be directly compatible.

DSS File Format Compatibility: DSS is a proprietary format, and some newer recorders implement it in ways that might not be compatible with Express Scribe.

How to Verify if the files are recorded in SP mode?

1. Use DSS Player Software: DSS Player Standard
2. Open the File: Launch the DSS Player and open the DSS file.
3. Check Properties: Look for file properties or metadata options within the software. This should display details about the recording mode (e.g., SP or LP).
