How to Record VoIP Phone Calls Using Axon IP PBX

If you would like to record VoIP telephone calls using our Virtual IP PBX, Axon, then you simply need to install the VRS 64 line Call Recording Software on the same server as Axon. Our IP PBX will auto detect VRS and configure a special extension. When calls are received through Axon the first available line of VRS will be used to record the call.

Setup Instructions
  1. Install Axon on any Windows or Linux computer, it can be part of a network or it can have a direct connection to the Internet.
  2. Install VRS on the same computer as Axon and the software will auto detect and configure a VoIP recording source.
  3. This source by default carries 10 recording channels in it, meaning that you can have 10 recordings going at the same time. You can change this to any number you like through the Settings dialogue.
Note: Each instance of the source counts as an actual channel and may affect your VRS licensing arrangement, so please consider this when changing the setting.
  4. In the Axon web control panel you can set up Axon to record all calls that come in through an external line or go out through an extension. To do this, just go to the properties for any external line or extension and check the "Record Calls" option.
  5. You can now make calls through Axon and VRS will record all conversations.
Advantages with this setup
The configuration is straight forward and easy for both applications.
Disadvantages with this setup
If you enable call recording in Axon then all audio in your phone calls must be routed through the Axon server. This may create delay issues in your conversations if there is a large distance between one (or both) of the call parties and the Axon computer.
Recommendations
This setup is best suited for those who would like the call recording functionality to be centralized with their IP PBx with no external control over recording from a computer operator who is on the call.
